My most recent trip - Hanoi, Sapa and Halong Bay 23rd to 29th September, 2010

This is my first ever oversea trip with my entire family. Quite a special one for me. The itineraries are as follow:

Day 1: Hanoi (Sunny day)
- Departing from my house to the airport (LCCT) at around 4am
- Arrived Hanoi at around 9am (Hanoi time)
- Pick up from airport to hotel
- No room was booked on this day as the plan was to go SAPA at the same night by the sleeper train
- Lunch @ Quan An Ngon (good place to try all local Vietnamese delicacies)
- Touring around the Old Quarter and the Ho Kiem Lake
- Had ice creams in Fanny IceCream (near Ho Kiem Lake)
- Back to the hotel to shower and the driver came to pick us up to the train station at around 8pm.
- Sleep in the train

Day 2: SAPA (Rainy day)
- Arrived Lao Cai train station at around 6am.
- Transferred to SAPA by a van (estimated 1 hour)
- Check in hotel, a Vietnamese guy came, intro himself as Diego.
- Tour begins. Cat cat Village.
- Walk and walk and walk. The road is very slippery, the day is very foggy and windy.
- Going back by van (rented and not included in the tour as initial tour plan is to walk back!!!!)
- Lunch in the hotel
- Diego came again at 3pm. Brought us the the town center where we visit the church, the lake (very polluted, lots of dead fishs floating) and the wet market (dog meat is sold like the pork, beef and chicken - very common!)
- Back to the hotel, shower and dinner
- Plan to walk out again at nite, but it was too foggy, and looks creepy... half way patah balik

Day 3: Sapa (Cloudy day)
- Breakfast
- Diego came again. Today's tour is to Hamong tribe village and Tavan Village)
- Lunch at hotel and do packing and rest for a while
- Foot massage
- Back to the hotel to prepare to leave Sapa at 5pm. Hence early dinner is served!
- Arrived train station at 6pm++ but the train only starts to depart at 8pm. Had a drink in a hotel nearby the station.

Day 4: Hanoi (Sunny day)
- Taxi to the hotel from the train station
- Arrived the hotel too early, the hotel is still closed. We shout abit to wake up the guy who take care of the hotel.
- Too early to check-in. As usual, we walked out to look for breakfast, tried the Beef noodle recommended by the hotel. It is just around the corner.
- Walk to the church nearby and some shops around.
- Go back and check in hotel
- Take a taxi to Temple of Literature
- Lunch at a local restaurant
- Taxi to Ho Chi Minh Museum and One pillar pagoda
- Back to the hotel
- Dinner at Little Hanoi
- Walk around the Ho Kiem Lake, do a little shopping and walk back to hotel

Day 5: Halong Bay (Sunny day)
- Breakfast
- Pick up from hotel to Halong  (3 and a half hour journey)
- Arrived Halong Bay
- Tour guide told us our junk is upgraded (haha, but we don't know why)
- Transferred to our junk by a small boat
- Lunch is served
- Visit caves
- Kayaking and/or swimming. Our junk was parked near the floating village.
- Dinner
- Relaxing at the upper deck

Day 6: Halong Bay (Rainy day)
- Breakfast

- Free & easy on the junk and lunch is served
- Packings and get ready to go back to the harbour to be transferred back to the hotel in Hanoi
- Arrived Hanoi and have dinner in the Tra Trien Shopping Mall near the Ho Kiem Lake

Day 7: Bye Bye Vietnam (Sunny day)
- Transferred to airport early in the morning
- Breakfast in the airport

My impression of Vietnam
1. Bad traffic condition all the time. Lots of motorbikes and they just non stop honking.
2. Dishonest taxi driver and souvenir sellers. Marked up the price 2 or 3 times higher than the usual price (even after we asked for discounts) Taxi driver charged us 340K Dong instead of 60K Dong the common price. - Always ask driver to use meter
3. Learn some basic Vietnamese b4 u go. They ONLY speaks Vietnamese
4. But still there r good things in Vietnam like nice scenery in Halong Bay and Sapa. Good food if u eat beef.

That's all. Will post the pictures in my next post!
